Venue Cranfield, part of Cranfield University, has been awarded Silver ECOsmart certification by Greengage | B Corp™. The accolade highlights Venue Cranfield's commitment to sustainability and its work to implement eco-friendly practices across its operations.
Greengage's ECOsmart accreditation is the leading certification awarded to venues that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability. Venue Cranfield was evaluated on various sustainability initiatives, including energy and water conservation, waste management, and corporate social responsibility.
Among the initiatives recognised by Greengage were:
?? Energy and Water Conservation: Venue Cranfield is in the process of migrating all lighting to LED, the campus operates a solar farm, and a comprehensive energy audit has been completed that has led to documented reductions in energy use.
??Waste Management and Recycling: We have eliminated plastic water bottles, replaced single-use plastic toiletries with dispensers, and we donate excess equipment to good causes, if the items cannot first be upcycled on campus. The site also composts garden waste and recycles 100% of paper, card, glass, and plastic waste.
??Sustainable Food and Beverage Management: Venue Cranfield offers plant-based menu options throughout its menus and prioritises local and organic food suppliers wherever possible, also using suppliers where animal welfare, carbon footprint and sustainability are core values.
??Corporate and Social Responsibility: The venue supports the Cranfield University campus wide ISO 50001 and ISO 14001 accreditations, supports wildlife conservation on-site, and has signed the Net Zero Carbon by 2030 Pledge.

Serving up sustainable kitchen practices
We’re really pleased to share that our catering team has been awarded the Green Kitchen Standard across all food and drink outlets on the Cranfield campus!
The Standard recognises caterers that are making positive steps to sustainably manage their energy, waste and water, and aligns with our ongoing commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
There are currently only a handful of venues that have achieved this certification, and with our pass rate of 75%, the auditors fed back that we stand out as the best they have encountered.
They were particularly impressed with our dedication to communicating our environmental goals and achievements, the energy pledges we showcase in each of the catering department and the effectiveness of the edible 'energy bars' which are distributed to and labelled with bitesize information conveying our 2030 environmental targets.
