Edgbaston Stadium has begun demolition of its Raglan and Priory Stands, marking the next stage of its transformative Masterplan redevelopment. The £46 million project – backed by a £17.3 million investment from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) – will see the stands replaced with enhanced spectator facilities and a new four-star Radisson RED hotel. The stands, which are approaching the end of their designed lifespan, having been originally opened in 1958, are now being demolished to make way for the new development, with construction work set to commence in early 2026 and completion scheduled in time for The Men’s Ashes in summer 2027.The Edgbaston Masterplan has already delivered significant improvements to the stadium, including the creation of one of the most modern pavilions in international cricket, the award-winning Corkfield apartment complex and a spectacular Skyline rooftop terrace. It has also delivered ‘Xcelerate with Edgbaston’ – a hospitality training centre providing apprenticeships and career opportunities for local residents, in partnership with Levy UK + Ireland. This next stage will see the Raglan and Priory Stands redeveloped into a new stand with 3,200 seats, whilst delivering improved visitor facilities including a new covered concourse, enhanced food and beverage options and better accessibility for disabled spectators. The addition of Radisson RED is expected to attract more than 60,000 overnight guests to the stadium annually, with 85 of the 146 rooms featuring pitch-facing balconies. Rooms on the top two floors can also be converted into hospitality boxes, for an exclusive viewing experience and a rooftop restaurant and bar with a wraparound terrace will provide views over the famous Edgbaston ground and Birmingham skyline.Currently providing 1,000 full time equivalent jobs, Edgbaston Stadium contributes approximately £35million to the local economy each year. The new hotel development is projected to increase this to over £40million, rising to over £70million in a cricket World Cup year, whilst creating 134 new permanent jobs in the community.Stuart Cain, Chief Executive at Warwickshire County Cricket Club, said: “It’s scary to see seventy years of history disappear, but it’s important that we make sure Edgbaston remains one of the world’s best cricket stadiums and continues to evolve into an important community resource for those living locally and an economic asset for the city in general.“The new hotel brings a much-needed four-star facility to the city, supporting our aim of using sport to drive positive change through creating employment opportunities and bringing communities together to deliver economic growth.”Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Edgbaston is such an iconic venue, known and loved by cricket fans around the world.“This redevelopment, backed by our investment, means it will continue to play its role in keeping our region at the top table of international sporting events ."
Edgbaston Stadium has been granted planning permission by Birmingham City Council for a major ground redevelopment project that will include a new on-site hotel.Planners unanimously approved the £42-million pound scheme last year, with work starting in September 2025, due to be completed in time for the men’s Ashes Test against Australia at Edgbaston in 2027.The proposed 146-bed Radisson Red hotel will include a rooftop terrace, pitch-view rooms with balconies, and other rooms that can be converted into hospitality boxes with external terraces to watch the match action. It is estimated that around 60,000 people will stay at the site each year. And the redeveloped stand – which will have a slightly bigger capacity than the existing Raglan and Priory stands – will include a new concourse with enhanced food and drink options, plus improved facilities for disabled spectators.Craig Flindall, Edgbaston Strategy Director, said: “We’re grateful to Birmingham City Council for approving the plans and for sharing our vision to bring increased economic and social benefits to the region through international sport.“Cricket will always stay at the heart of our thinking. But it’s important we develop a stadium that operates all year round, supporting new jobs in this part of the city and creates wider community opportunities.“We are creating a mixed-use destination that will combine elite sport, conferencing and events and residential and hotel accommodation with community facilities that will improve education, employment and social cohesion in the area.”Edgbaston Stadium currently contributes approximately £35 million to the local economy every year and projections from the new hotel development increase that to over £40 million. It’s expected the project will create more than 376 jobs during the construction period and another 100 post completion, adding to the 1,000 jobs the stadium already supports locally.West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has supported the project with a loan of up to £18-million.Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “Edgbaston is a world-class venue and this redevelopment, backed by our investment, will ensure it continues to attract top-tier international cricket, thousands of visitors every year, and even more jobs for local people.“Our region is home to a number of globally celebrated sports teams and venues. By supporting them to grow, we shore up our place on the international stage, bringing visitors, investment and jobs now and into the future.“It’s what I want to see for the West Midlands – growth that ensures everyone can benefit.”Adela Cristea, Vice President, Business Development UK, Ireland & Nordics at Radisson Hotel Group, added: “Radisson RED is the perfect fit for this world-renowned stadium and we're so eccited to bring this project to life."The project is the latest development in the Edgbaston Masterplan to turn the stadium into a multi-use sport, residential, commercial, and community complex.
Edgbaston Stadium has become the first UK venue to deploy AI-driven enquiry handling, qualification, and proposal automation by partnering with event and venue management software leader, iVvy, as they launch Instant Proposal - powered by hivr.ai.
With enquiry response times now heavily influencing conversions in meetings and groups, etings and groups sales. Instant Proposal gives hotels and venues the ability to respond within seconds instead of hours, removing manual admin and accelerating the entire enquiry-to-proposal workflow.Instant Proposal uses hivr.ai’s email AI to automatically read and extract details from an enquiry, generating proposals within seconds directly within iVvy. The launch also introduces a major new capability to the meetings and groups industry: AI-powered lead qualification and scoring, available for the first time through iVvyAI and powered by hivr.ai’s intelligence engine. Edgbaston Stadium is the first UK venue to deploy this capability, using AI to analyse incoming event enquiries, identify those most ready to progress, and prioritise responses with greater speed and consistently.Lauren Hall, CEO of iVvy, said “This launch represents a major step forward for how venues manage demand. Instant Proposal – powered by hivr.ai brings automation and intelligence into the heart of the sales process, helping teams respond faster and win more business. Edgbaston’s early adoption shows just how transformative this can be.”The launch marks a significant evolution for iVvy, embedding AI directly into its platform to remove manual admin, reduce friction, and streamline sales workflows. By integrating hivr.ai’s adaptive intelligence layer, iVvy AI delivers automation and speed to one of hospitality’s most manually intensive processes and gives venues a competitive edge in a market where speed directly influences revenue. Felix Undeutsch, CEO of hivr.ai, said “We built hivr.ai to remove the operational bottlenecks that hold back meetings and group sales. Creating proposals is one of the most critical – and slowest – parts of group and meeting sales, yet we know speed is everything. On average, 26 percent of same-day proposals convert, while next-day responses drop to just 15 percent. Every delay risks lost revenue.”At Edgbaston, the technology is already helping the team capture and qualify enquiries faster, reduce admin, and focus on higher-value commercial activity. Angela Sanders, Head of Conference and Event Sales at Edgbaston Stadium, said, “We receive a high volume of enquiries across multiple channels, and speed and prioritisation are crucial. With AI-powered lead scoring and Instant Proposal capabilities, we can quickly identify our warm and hot leads, allowing sales teams to focus on the enquiries that are the best fit for our venue. It also frees up more time for consultative selling while AI handles initial qualification. It’s tranforming how we work and serve our customers, we're already seeing strong results"

Now granted, the project is expected to be finished by Spring 2027 with the hotel opening in time for that year’s men’s Ashes Test against Australia.Edgbaston Chief Operating Officer Craig Flindall, said: “We’re delighted to partner with Radisson Hotel Group; the brand’s upscale lifestyle theme is a perfect fit for our vision of the stadium’s ambitious Masterplan project.

“The initial phase saw the creation of the Corkfield apartments – which were recently named regional Apartment Development of the Year – and plaza area which we now use for community events.
“And Phase 2 saw the opening of Xcelerate with Edgbaston which is a new catering and hospitality centre of excellence, operated with our catering partner Levy, which is offering great career opportunities for local people at the stadium.”Adela Cristea, Vice President, Business Development UK, Ireland & Nordics at Radisson Hotel Group, said: “We are proud to have been chosen as hotel partner and are thrilled to be part of this stunning project.
