History of the Company

Founded in 1993, the company produced the first electronic directory for sourcing meeting and event venues, launched on a floppy disk in November 1993. This followed 15 months extensive collaborative research with professional conference and event organisers, and revolutionised venue sourcing methods throughout the industry.

Building further upon this resounding success, The Venue Directory was released on CD-ROM in 1996 followed two years later by the first version of www.venuedirectory.com giving users around the world quick and instant access to detailed information on thousands of venues. In 2000 a truly international site was rolled out featuring over 18,000 venues worldwide using the latest technology which also enabled the creation of private label sites for many of the leading hotel groups.

In Autumn 2007 the company purchased one of it's leading competitors, www.click4venues.com a very popular and well optimised site thus providing subscribing venues with another valuable route to market.

The Spring of 2008 saw the release of Gratis, a powerful booking module supplied to agencies to run their businesses and fed with live venue information from The Venue Directory central data base.

In 2009 venuedirectory.com developed a venue finding site with limevenueportfolio.com featuring the venues where Compass provide all, or some, of the catering and management services. Although this had been done in the past with the likes of Forte and Paramount Hotels, this site demonstrates how venuedirectory.com data can be successfully incorporated into a 3rd party website and connected to GRATIS, which is used as the central proposal and booking tool for Compass. This technology has now been extended to create what are referred to as 'white label sites' for people such as Absolute Corporate Events, Ellis Salsby, The Corporate Team, BookOtel, Right Location, Brief2Event, JP Events and more each week.

Over the years, the sound philosophy of co-operative development has remained as strong as ever and we have used our vast understanding and industry knowledge to continue to create important and exciting products for the Meeting and Event Industry.
