JANUARY 2009 - MIA AGM AND ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2009
The MIA’s AGM and Annual Conference has been hailed a great success by its organisers after attracting more than 130 industry professionals. The one-day conference entitled Marketing and Leadership: ‘Strategies for Challenging Times’ was held at Church House Conference Centre in Westminster on Monday 26th January. Delegates were a mix of both MIA members and non-members from across the meetings industry, all keen to pick-up tips and advice on how drive their businesses forward in the current challenging trading environment. The conference followed the MIA’s AGM, where the council for the year was elected.
'The event was a great success for the MIA and very rewarding for the attendees with good advice and suggested techniques for taking us through these challenging economic times.'
Nick Milne - Chairman - MIA Council
Conference delegates were educated as well as entertained in the concept of ‘Marketing Judo’ by speaker Richard Richardson of Harry Ramsden’s fame. Packed with amusing stories and events from the wide variety of companies he has been involved with, Richard demonstrated through the principles of Judo how it is always possible to grow your business whatever the size of your budget.
Following lunch, delegates had a choice of afternoon seminars presented by Martin Pepper and James Lee from Maxima Training, designed to help maximise the potential of leads, show-rounds and deliver effective sales and marketing. Delegates were also given the opportunity to attend an AIM Masterclass at which they heard first hand from Andrew Mosley, General Manager of Q Hotels Norton Park in Winchester, about his team’s experience working towards and being the first venue to gain AIM Silver in August 2008.
Jane Evans, MIA Chief Executive, said: “This year’s AGM and Conference was a very successful event for both the MIA and the industry professionals who attended. The feedback we have had is extremely positive and demonstrates support for the MIA and the importance of this event by those working within the meetings industry."
